Although birds are beautiful creatures and admired by bird fanciers and members of the the public alike, there are some instances where the control of birds is necessary.

If, for example, they gain access to a food producing factory, their droppings may contaminate the goods being produced. Similarly, if birds choose to roost under a dispatch canopy, then products below it are at risk. Often, birds such as pigeons and starlings like to perch and roost on shop signs and window ledges, the resulting noise, odour and of course, droppings can be a significant public nuisance.

In rural and agricultrural situations, numbers of birds can damage crops. When they get inside barns, silos and stores, their fouling can contaminate grains or foodstuffs.
